Gorm Valentin

GORM VALENTIN, born in 1944.

Originally educated as surveyor. Played clarinet in several jazz orchestras. Before a trip to the Mecca of jazz, New Orleans in 1969, he bought an amateur camera. After returning home acquired he said a NIkon F camera and then a Leica M 2 camera.

After various jobs i.a. as a gramophone record seller and as a teacher of photography, the photograph became a way of life in 1975. Gorm Valentin has photographed for several hundred album covers, Danish and foreign, including for C.V.Jørgensen, Gnags, Shubidua, Thomas Helmig, NHØP, Stan Getz, Bill Evans and Chet Baker m.m.

Supplied cover photos for miscellaneous magazines and magazines such as Euroman, Live Pictures, M.M., A Thousand Eyes and Jazz Special. Photographed for the newspapers Politiken and Information for a number of years. Delivered photos for several stamps. Worked as a theater photographer at several theaters, including Aveny, Rialto and the House Theater. Illustrated several books and published several in his own name, including BLACK on WHITE in 2004.

Exhibited extensively at home and abroad and is represented in various collections, private and public. Gorm's style can not be simply described, but is characterized by a special light, a graphic tight composition, as well as presence with the one portrayed.

Gorm Valentin is still active as a photographer in music, but also a "street" and art photographer, as well as a lecturer. Received Fogtdals Rejselegat in 2004 and DJBFA´s Særpris in 2016.
